This week has been super chilly, with temperature in between -25C to -10C. After a day's work all I wanted to do is curl up on the sofa under a blanket with a cup of steaming hot tea. Did I say with extra milk? But guess what, the only thing I was unable to do was sit under a warm blanket on the sofa, courtesy, my active toddler, lil A. But, I did manage the cup of tea somehow. So, to compensate for the entire week, I needed some comfort food for my friday evening. What else could be more appropriate than chirer pulao. This is a very simple dish that takes only 10 to 12 minutes to make. I don't know about you, but chirer pulao reminds me of my school days when I would be back from school to a bowl of warm chirer pulao. This was also a chance to introduce chirer pulao to lil A, who is getting super picky these days about food. So, here is my version of chirer pulao for you.
Preparation time: 6 minutes
Cooking time: 12 minutes
Ingredients:
2 cups of Chire/Poha
Half cup of mixed vegetables ( I used carrots, green beans and frozen peas) cut into small pieces
1 small red onion (chopped)
2 tablespoons of roasted peanuts
1 dry red chilli
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 egg
2 tablespoon oil
Salt and sugar to taste
|
Mixed Veggies
Wash the poha with water and drain the excess water. Add turmeric to the washed poha and mix well to give it a nice color. |
Heat oil in a pan. Crack a dry red chilli, and add the chopped onions. Saute it for 2-3 minutes or till it turns pink. Add the roasted peanuts, mix it for a minute or so. Then add the chopped vegetables and cook it for 4-5 minutes. If you think its too dry, sprinkle few drops of water in the pan.
Crack a egg in the pan and scramble it with spatula.
Add the washed poha to the vegetables and mix well. Add salt and sugar to taste. You can also add raisins soaked in water for 5 minutes. I thought of adding it but forgot.
Enjoy. This is a nice snack to enjoy after a long day.
